Holly Todd

Holly Todd has worked in education for over 20 years. She started her career as a kindergarten teacher before taking on the role of the school counselor. At the time, Wasatch School District did not have full-time elementary school counselors, but her principal valued having her in the building all day, every day. So they were creative with her other assignments including ½ time kindergarten teacher, ELL Teacher, Title I specialist, and Learning Lab Teacher. She collected and analyzed data annually to support her role and eventually the school board implemented full-time school counselors in each elementary school. After 17 years of working in the same district, Holly had the opportunity to go to the Utah State Board of Education to become a School Counseling Program Specialist. She has also worked in Jordan School District as a Project AWARE team member. Holly currently works for Northeastern Utah Educational Services Agency where she supports 9 rural areas of Northeastern Utah in crisis response, MTSS/PBIS, and school counseling programming.

One of Holly’s proudest accomplishments in school counseling was the ABC’s of Crayons to College and Career Readiness that she developed with her colleague, Lynette Schiess. This program has been shared at conferences in Utah as well as at the American School Counselor Association Conference in Orlando, Florida. Holly has been recognized by USCA as the elementary school counselor of the year, nominated as the ASCA school counselor of the year, and received other recognitions throughout her career.

Holly has always been an advocate for school counseling programs and school counselors, especially in elementary schools. She believes that elementary school counselors can meet 100% of their student population and provide a preventative model for future concerns. As a school counselor, she believes it is her responsibility to equip students with the physical and emotional skills necessary to navigate their futures.
